Holiday Bubbly: J Vineyards and Winery

Holiday season: The perfect excuse to mix up your first cocktail way too early in the afternoon, drink far too much wine throughout dinner, and guzzle digestif upon digestif  in an effort to wash it all down and somehow stave off the inevitable hangover that results from all the drinking and family-arguing. ‘Tis the season!
Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be featuring wines and spirits that will work particularly well this time of year, as well as pairing suggestions for them. What better way to start, then, than with bubbly.
In last week’s issue of The Good Life Report, I wrote about a particularly Thanksgiving-friendly sparkling wine from right here in the States: The excellent J Vineyards and Winery Cuvee 20 “25th Anniversary.” Click here for the review, and here for the J web site.
In addition, I’d also strongly recommend the J Vineyards and Winery Brut Rosé. It starts off with aromas of spicy cherries and strawberries and a hint of something almost herbal, and fleshes itself out on the palate with flavors of berry-bright pastry creme and something that reminds me of compressed watermelon. Which is all to say that it’s just as delicious on its own as it is with everything from Thanksgiving leftovers or even risotto, which I tasting this alongside last Saturday night. It’s versatile, compulsively drinkable, and a great value. In other words, perfect for the holidays.
