Wine Review: Luce della Vite 2001

Luce della Vite 2001 Toscana (375ml)
Evocatively mature color with bricking along the edges: Perfectly appropriate given the age and bottle format. Aromas of forest floor, dried violets, hints of porcini, and, with air, sweet currants and plum skin. On the palate, flavors of oolong tea, cigar tobacco, and wild mushrooms are joined by hints of hoisin sauce, velvety fig-balsamic reduction, plum and cherry skin, cacao powder, a touch of espresso, grilled sage, and scorched earth. The finish, long and silky, is elegant with those dried flowers from the nose. Drink now: It’s stunning, and firmly at its peak.
