Wine Review: Ravenswood “Besieged” 2012 Sonoma County (Limited Release)

Appealing aromas of oak come through right off the bat--vanilla, clove, toast, hints of coconut--and are joined by sachertorte, plums, cola, spice, and raspberry-liqueur-filled chocolate. On the palate, this is a young, easily lovable wine, the vanilla creme and black tea notes swirling with acid and blackberry coulis. Hints of balsamic and spice combine with tobacco and mineral as well as cherry skin. Very appealing, and an excellent value (SRP $15.99). Drink now, or hold for a few years.
