Wine Reviews: Gallo Signature Series

Gallo Signature Series Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2011
Shimmering in appearance, with aromas of subtle butterscotch and vanilla pastry creme, as well as clotted cream, apple fritter, a bit of tarragon, and hints of lemon oil. On the palate, lively acidity balances out ripe, rich apple with flecks of melon, vanilla, toast, and a hint of orange blossom. Rich and lingering, and well structured, too. Drink now - 2019+.

Gallo Signature Series Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2011
Dark cherry, cola, birch bark, and dried violets hover from the glass and lead to flavors of sweet spiced cherries, caramel, Roll-o chocolate candies, tea, tobacco, and Middle Eastern spices. Velvety in texture and with well-integrated tannins; the oak and its vanilla notes will continue to be absorbed over the next year or so. Drink now - 2020.

Gallo Signature Series Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dense, rich, and appealing, with aromas of blackberry, black currants, kirsch, and graphite, and hints of cedar and vanilla as well. On the palate, this shows still-integrating oak but it is well on its way, with black cherry, cafe mocha, black sesame seeds, dark Middle Eastern spices, baker’s chocolate, plums, spice cake, and sweet espresso. Drink now - 2022+. Delicious.
