Wine Review: Flora Springs

Flora Springs Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2012, Napa Valley
Aromas of lemon curd and baking spices are lithe and lovely, with notes of white flowers, clove, and melon. Flavors of baked apple, melon, cinnamon, vanilla, and white-blossomed flowers are edged with a hint of smoke and flint. Eventually, the palate evolves in the direction of orange and lime, but very subtly, and then resolves with delicate creme brûlée. Well-made, balanced, and beautiful. Drink now - 2018.

Flora Springs Trilogy 2011, Napa Valley

Eucalyptus and menthol on the nose mingle with dried currants, clay, and a hint of flowers and tea: Interesting and complex, balancing out freshness with depth. Flavors of sweet currants and dark cherry are limned with sage, and lifted by that floral note from the nose, as well as incense and sandalwood. The finish is flecked with mineral, spice, plum cake, and a bit of warm asphalt. With air, the oak becomes more prominent, and chocolate and vanilla notes emerge. Give this a few years and then enjoy from 2015 - 2024.
